LUKE 4:1a Then Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan River. He was led by the Spirit in the wilderness where he was tempted by the devil for forty days.
Sometimes, we think that if the Holy Spirit leads us, it is always going to be “beside peaceful streams,” or maybe we just hope that is going to be the case. But we know that it is often not and God isn’t all about our comfort, ease, or happiness. Jesus had none of that on the cross, even though he was more than willing to do the Father’s will. John the Baptizer lived in the wilderness, no ease, no comfort, and he fulfilled prophecy and God’s will. He was the forerunner to the Messiah and prepared the way. Mary lost her firstborn son but gained a Savior. The disciples encountered hard lives spreading the good news and died painful deaths, but they fulfilled the Great Commission.
The next time we feel like something is unfair, difficult, uncomfortable or inconvenient, but we know God is in it, we can remember that we are in good company and the Father’s will is our top priority. There are some situations where we just need to trust Him while he is working the details, and He is always working the details!
