Acts 4:13 records a striking observation made by the Jewish leaders about Peter and John: “Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated, common men, they were astonished. And they recognized that they had been with Jesus.” This verse reveals a profound truth for every believer, the most transformative influence in a Christian’s life is time spent with Jesus. Peter and John were not impressive by worldly standards. They lacked formal rabbinic training, yet they spoke with courage, clarity, and conviction. Their confidence did not come from education or position, but from relationship. Being with Jesus had shaped their character, sharpened their faith, and emboldened their witness (Matthew 4:19; John 15:4–5). The presence of Christ in their lives was evident to others. Scripture consistently affirms that closeness to God produces spiritual fruit. Moses’ face shone after meeting with the Lord (Exodus 34:29), and the psalmist declared, “But for me it is good to be near God” (Psalm 73:28). Jesus Himself invited His followers to abide in Him, promising that apart from Him we can do nothing (John 15:5). Time with Jesus changes how we think, speak, and live. For believers today, the call is the same. Spending time with Jesus is not merely a devotional habit; it is the source of spiritual power and maturity. Practically, this means setting aside intentional time for prayer and Scripture (Psalm 1:1–3), listening before speaking, and cultivating awareness of Christ throughout the day (Colossians 3:16–17). It also means obeying His words, for love for Christ is demonstrated through obedience (John 14:23). When believers walk closely with Jesus, others will notice. Our boldness, peace, and love will testify, not to our abilities, but to the transforming presence of Christ in us. Like Peter and John, may it be evident that we, too, have been with Jesus.
