'“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” declares the Lord. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways And My thoughts than your thoughts. '
Isaiah 55:8-9
“I just can’t see that happening. It doesn’t make sense to me. I would have never expected…” We have a lot of ways to convey our lack of perception and understanding. Thankfully, God is patient and merciful with us as we struggle, fail, and slowly learn to place our trust in Him alone. You see, His plans are always higher and bigger and broader than we could imagine. That’s not a “Him” problem, that’s an “us” problem, and it’s one that He loves to help us solve. Think about how we would react today to what God has already done! King David would have been CANCELLED, Jeremiah would have been labelled FAKE NEWS, and I suspect the History channel would have a special on how Enoch and Elijah were abducted by ALIENS.
Everywhere we look, we see people struggling to wrap their minds around reality, explain it based on limited information, and conform it to their feelings. God’s plan and purposes are so much greater than we can imagine. As we celebrate Christ’s birth, think about that. Imagine a shepherd trying to predict that Jesus would redeem humanity spiritually through the cross and resurrection. Imagine the “wise men” trying to figure out what kind of King that small baby would grow to be. Imagine your outlook on life if you understood that God loves each of us enough to weave this plan of salvation into the foundation of creation, even knowing that most of us would reject it, and the rest of us would need a LOT of help to understand it. I challenge you today and for the rest of this year to look beyond yourself, beyond your thoughts and feelings, and just rest for a moment in the sheer magnitude of God’s great love for you. It will change the way you look at everything.
