Lately, I’ve been sitting with a simple but profound truth I read in my devotional: there are only three things that are eternal — God, His Word, and people. Everything else fades. Positions change. Seasons shift. Titles come and go. Even the things we work so hard to build will one day pass into memory. But God remains. His Word stands. And the souls He created live forever. When we anchor our identity in anything temporary, we will always feel unsettled. If our identity is rooted in success, we fear failure. If it’s rooted in approval, we fear rejection. If it’s rooted in comfort, we fear change. But when our identity is rooted in Christ, we are secure. Isaiah reminds us,
“The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.” - Isaiah 40:8
Our faith grows deeper when we remember what truly lasts. God is not shaken by trends, culture, or uncertainty. His Word is not outdated. And people — every single one — carry eternal significance. That truth reshapes our calling. Calling is not about platform. It is not about recognition. It is not about building something impressive in the world’s eyes. Calling is about stewarding what is eternal. It is about loving God faithfully, standing firmly on His Word, and investing intentionally in people.
Jesus said, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will never pass away.” - Matthew 24:35
When we live with eternity in mind, our priorities shift. We forgive more quickly. We serve more freely. We speak more carefully. We love more intentionally. Your calling may look ordinary to the world. But if it points people toward an eternal God through His eternal Word, it is anything but ordinary. May we be people who build what lasts. Because in the end, only three things remain — and we have the privilege of being a part of the process.
