“Strip yourselves of your former nature [put off and discard your old unrenewed self] which characterized your previous manner of life and becomes corrupt through lusts and desires that spring from delusion; And be constantly renewed in the spirit of your mind [having a fresh mental and spiritual attitude], And put on the new nature (the regenerate self) created in God's image, [Godlike] in true righteousness and holiness. Therefore, rejecting all falsity and being done now with it, let everyone express the truth with his neighbor, for we are all parts of one body and members one of another. [Zech. 8:16.]” Ephesians 4:22-25 AMPC
Easier said than done, right? Some of us have been wearing masks so long we don’t know what our real face looks like. Most of us have been taught at some point that our emotions can’t be trusted, so we’ve ignored them. Emotionally healthy spirituality requires us to identify them and feel them in order to strip away the old false person we were and submit ourselves to the Holy Spirit for renewal into a new nature, a godly and holy nature. When we don’t, we become less human. We must allow Him to analyze, drag up and out sinful ways we learned in our families of origin. It’s a painful process, but necessary to walk in holiness, peace, and most importantly truth. In order to fully know God and become like Him in nature, we have to know ourselves. We have to acknowledge that we need to change, and we can through the power of the Holy Spirit.
